Style 702 Continuous Filament Graphite/PTFE Lubricated Packing

Style 702 Continuous Filament Graphite/PTFE Lubricated PackingStyle 702 is densely braided from a continuous filament graphite ribbon form yarn lubricated with PTFE and graphite. The ribbon yarn form used in Style 702 provides a "flat" footprint of the packing on the shaft. This lowers the gland pressure required to control leakage. Unlike other PTFE lubricated graphite filament packings, the yarn used in Style 702 is impregnated prior to braiding. Because the yarn has complete uniformity, it has the highest capability for transferring heat away from the shaft of any packing using these two materials. This heat transferability, coupled with the chemical resistance of these materials and our patented ANTI-KEYSTONE® II Packing TechnologySM, creates a long lived compliant packing that can be used in all but the most severe corrosives.

Applications for Style 702 include rotating equipment such as agitators, mixers and pumps, and reciprocating equipment where clearances are not excessive. Style 702 may also be used as a valve stem packing.

Services for Style 702 include acids, bases, oils, solvents, and water based solutions that are not strong oxidizers (such as aqua regia, oleum or red fuming nitric acid) or in solutions containing free halides, Style 702 also should not be used in contact with molten alkali metals.

Graphite Filament Packings

Style 707-L Grafiber® Graphite Filament Packing

Style 707-L Grafiber® Graphite Filament PackingStyle 707-L Grafiber® is manufactured from the purest continuous filament graphite yarn (which is treated with only a small percentage of TFE suspensoid to aid in braiding). When braided to size with our ANTI-KEYSTONE® Packing TechnologySM, this yarn is transformed into a packing which makes it nearly universal. Virtually frictionless and nonabrasive, this self-lubricating packing is ideal for the most severe boiler feed applications.

Suitable for use in non-oxidizing atmospheres to 5000°F (2760°C), Grafiber® does not exhibit significant weight loss or shrinkage even when used in oxidizing atmospheres at 800°F (430°C). Style 707-L Grafiber® is inert to most chemicals (except strong oxidizing agents such as aqua regia, red fuming nitric acid, oleum, and free halides) and results in maintenance savings through longer service life than can be achieved with most other packing materials.

Grafiber® excels when used in combination with Graphite Ribbon Tape in die molded rings to seal power plant valves according to the EPRI* valve sealing system.

Applications for Style 707-L Grafiber® include boiler feed pumps, valves, agitators, and mixers other than in nuclear service. Hardened shafts or sleeves should be used in high speed services as Style 707-L can be run without seal water.

Services suitable for Style 707-L Grafiber® include boiler feed water, chemicals, refinery products, and pulping liquors.

Style 707-T TFE Impregnated Graphite Filament Packing

Style 707-T is generated from Style 707-L by the uniform impregnation of TFE suspensoid. The addition of TFE in controlled amounts throughout the pure graphite braid provides an inert "blocking agent" that prevents wicking and provides resistance to extrusion without affecting conformability.

Services include high and low pressure feeders, Kvaerner Digesters, outlet devices, and top separators on Kaymr continuous digester systems where reliability is a must, as well as chemical mixers and control valves where extrusion may be a problem and space for bull rings is limited.

Style 7800 Graphite Yarn Reinforced Corners with Patented ANTI-KEYSTONE® Interlocking Braid

Style 7800 is the one packing that is nearly universal. Corner reinforcement with the highest purity continuous filament graphite yarn provides extrusion resistance when clearances are excessive. Except where strong oxidizers must be sealed, or color is a concern, Style 7800 out-performs virtually all other packings - service for service

In pumps or valves, our patented ANTI-KEYSTONE® Packing TechnologySM naturally creates the maximum shaft conformability and uniformity of density when installed. Thus both installation and removal are far easier than competitive packings made with similar materials.

The high purity of Style 7800 provides rapid heat dissipation in rotating service, while its conformability reduces inter-ring product entrapment in valves. Style 7800 has been tested per AQMD-1173, passing this fugitive emission test with no detectable leakage and without requiring any gland adjustment during testing. And Style 7800 has passed the "Trial by Fire" API-589 Fire Test.
