Mechanical Packing
TFE Fiber Packings
Style 98 Valve Packing
Manufactured from TFE filament treated with TFE suspensoid as a solid non-shrinking lubricant, this dry packing is the most dense braid we offer. Style 98 is inert in all services and is impervious to penetration by liquids or gasses.
ANTI-KEYSTONE® II TechnologySM allows easy conformance to the shaft or valve stem, resulting in lower gland pressure. The TFE lubricant has the lowest friction coefficient for any solid, which reduces breakaway friction in valves and assures long life.
Applications for Style 98 include rising and rotating valve stems, slow speed pump shafts or rods, and mixers.
Services which may require Style 98 include the harshest chemical solutions, steam, solvents, and cooking liquors (except molten alkali metals or free halides).
| pH 0-14 | surface speeds to 700 fpm (3.5 M/sec)
pressures to 5000 psi (341 BAR) |
| temperatures | -400°F to +500°F (-230°C to +260°C) |
| Style 98 meets the requirements of MIL-P-24398 (SHIPS), Type B, 15 SEP 70 |
Style 98-OX TFE Oxygen Service Packing
Style 98-OX is braided from a special solvent and heat-treated TFE yarn for use in contact with pure oxygen. The solvent treatment removes any hydrocarbon dispersant used in the TFE suspensoid added as a solid lubricant to the TFE filaments of the yarn. The heat treatment ensures that traces of solvent residues are evaporated. Style 98-OX has the same limitations, application, and service range as Style 98.
Style 98-OX meets the requirements of MIL-P-24398 (SHIPS), Type C, 15 SEP 70
Style 100 "Ultra" Teflon Filament Yarn Packing
Style 100 is the ultimate in white Teflon® fluorocarbon fiber packings. "Ultra" is densely constructed with ANTI-KEYSTONE® II Packing TechnologySM, from 100% pure DuPont "Ultra" I & T Teflon® packing yarn. SuperpackTM Style 102 BlackjackTM Packing
Densely braided from a special TFE/Graphite composite fiber yarn using ANTI-KEYSTONE® II Packing TechnologySM, SuperpackTM Style 102 BlackjackTM Packing combines the highest temperature and surface speed capability combined with the broadest chemical resistance of any TFE fiber-based packing. Expanded PTFE fibrils entrain submicron sized graphite particles which provide a graphite running surface after start-up. An inert break-in lubricant reduces burnout in difficult start-up situations. Heat is carried away from the shaft by transfer to the adjacent graphite particles and through the graphite in the packing to the heat sink of the stuffing box. The high heat transfer rates provided by graphite permit running temperatures approaching the physical limits of the PTFE matrix.
Applications for SuperpackTM Style 102 BlackjackTM Packing include all equipment with rotary or reciprocating shafts.
Services where SuperpackTM Style 102 BlackjackTM Packing may be used include unbleached paper stocks, water, steam, oils, pulping liquors, acids and bases, and other chemical solutions except molten alkali metals and strong oxidizers such as aqua regia, red fuming nitric acid, oleum, and free halides.

General Service Pulp and Paper Mill Packing
SuperpackTM 104 Bumblebee Packing®
- Reduces Burnouts At Start-up
- Extrusion Resistant
- Ideal For High Speed Liquor Pumps
- Runs Cool
- Extends Shaft and Sleeve Life
|
SuperpackTM 104 Bumblebee Packing® is the standard for general service use in the Pulp and Paper Industry. The reasons are quite simple. Liquor Pumps and Boiler Feed Pumps at 3600 RPM can be sealed as never before. Refiners and Agitators can be reliably packed between shutdowns. White Water Pumps can normally be packed without a lantern ring. These are just a few examples of the outstanding performance of this packing.
SuperpackTM 104 Bumblebee Packing® expertly combines two outstanding materials: Kevlar® TEXIT packing yarn and a TFE/Graphite composite yarn, in such a way that they enhance each other. Kevlar® TEXIT packing yarn possesses memory and the ability to handle shaft deflection and runout. The TFE/Graphite Composite yarn has properties which permit sealing with low gland loading. In addition, this yarn is thermally conductive, enabling shaft sleeves to operate at lower temperatures. Reduced temperature assures extended sleeve life. Precision braiding incorporating our exclusive patented ANTI-KEYSTONE® II Packing TechnologySM is further assurance that these two materials will function in unison and provide optimum results.
Applications Pumps, agitators, double and single shaft steam and chemical mixers, thick stock pumps, pulpers, feeders (rotary valve or screw type). Trunions, drop leg glands, repulpers, refiners, boiler feed pumps, etc.

Packing for Special Services
VibradampTM & ChemstopTM Resilient Core Packings
VibradampTM and ChemstopTM resilient core packings are specialized products designed to extend packing service life in equipment where vibration or shaft eccentricity is a chronic problem. The use of elastomeric cores in braided packing can be traced back to at least 1885 when a patent was issued for an improved steam engine packing using flax braided about symmetrical cords of "gutta-perchera" (natural latex). Today, NEBCO has the most experience in the application of synthetic elastomerics that greatly extend the usage of that early packing.
Why Rubber O-Ring Cords?
The use of multiple rubber O-Ring cords in the place of axial fill yarns within braided packing creates exceptional resiliency that helps the packing rebound faster with unstable shafts. This lowered hysterisis (see next page for definition) reduces the average fluid film thickness between the shaft and packing.
The benefit: Reduced leakage on agitators, hydroturbines, and equipment where shafts run eccentrically, are out-of-round, vibrate or subject to impact.
Our patented ANTI-KEYSTONE® Packing TechnologySM is maintained by using appropriately sized cords within the braid, thereby providing all features of our unique packings.
Material Selection
Since different rubber compounds have greatly differing chemical resistance, the O-Ring cord compound must be suitable for use in the fluid to be sealed when it is braided within the appropriate packing yarns for the application.

Note On Construction: VibradampTM and ChemstopTM packings contain five or more cores in sizes 3/8" (10mm) and larger. Due to size limitations, 1/4" (6,4mm) and 5/16" (7,9mm) cross sections contain only three cores.
Hysteresis: is the time lag in response of a body reacting to force(s) acting on the body. An example of this is packed equipment with an out-of-round shaft. The “high point" of the shaft pushes radially on the fluid film as it rotates. The fluid film thins and then, in turn, pushes on the packing, compressing it. After the "high point" of the shaft passes a particular point, the packing must rebound to keep fluid film thin. The faster the packing rebounds (lower hysteresis) the thinner the average film thickness becomes. And the thinner the film, the lower the leak rate.
Soot Blower Packings
Style 1600TC/2 "V" Packing for Insulated Soot Blowers
- Help Support Feed Tube
- Will Not Wear Feed Tube
- Will Not Absorb Water
| |
This "V" ring style is fabricated from a specially formulated graphite/TFE mixture and has been developed for use in I.K. soot blowers with insulated feed tubes. The graphite rapidly transfers heat and provides strength to reinforce the TFE matrix. Unlike conventional soot blower sets, there is no wire to wear the feed tube. Style 1600TC/2 is not porous and does not absorb water when water washing is done through the feed tube. Water absorbed by conventional soot blower packing during this operation or from condensate can flash into steam and destroy conventional soot blower packings.
Standard Sizes:
A: 2 3/8 x 3 1/8 x 3 3/8” deep*
B: 2 3/4 x 3 1/2 x 3 1/4” deep |
Custom Sizes: Available upon request.
- Temperatures to 500°F

*Some of these stuffing boxes are only 3” deep. To seal, remove one pressure ring from these sets.
Washer Packings
NEBCO manufactures "SEAL ROPES" for specific applications such as Rama Repola washers, where a dense construction with low elongation is required. SEAL ROPES have large central axial cores buried within the braid to accept the tension placed on the rope. The carefully placed cores prevent the stretching and the resulting reduction in cross section that causes loss of sealing. The diamond shaped cross section readily conforms to the mating vee shaped stationary and rotating sides used in these machines.
Style 102/150 Seal Rope
Style 102/150 Seal Rope has a low friction graphite/TFE composite fiber tightly braided about centrally placed non-stretching cores of DuPont’s original type 129 Kevlar IT packing yarn. The composite fiber in the braid and outer axial fill used in Style 102/150 provides a conformable sealing surface with the lowest running friction and the greatest rate of heat transfer possible in this non-elongating construction. Style 102/150 is a non-contaminating black on the surface with yellow interior cores.
Style 102/150 Seal Rope is available in 3/4" and 1" cross sections and in metric cross sections of 20mm and 25mm. Other sizes are available by special order.
| pH 5-10 | surface speeds to 3000 fpm (15.3 M/sec)
pressures to 250 psi (16.7 BAR)
|
| temperatures | -65°F to + 400°F (-54°C to +204°C)
|
 |
Style 1250 Seal Rope
Style 1250 "Seal Rope" is manufactured solely from PTFE impregnated continuous filament nylon. Its uniform PTFE impregnation presents a low friction running surface to minimize wear of the sealing groove. The ultra fine denier continuous monofilament used as axial cores limit stretch of this "Seal Rope", reducing the cross sectional loss that leads to a loss of sealing efficiency.
Style 1250 "Seal Rope" is white in color throughout and is available in 1" and 25mm cross sections. Other cross sections available by special order.
| pH 5-10 | surface speeds to 1800 fpm (9.18 M/sec)
pressures to 500 psi (35 BAR)

| temperatures | to +250°F (+121°C) |
 |
Style 6902 Seal Rope
Style 6902 is firmly braided in our "Seal Rope" construction from an expanded TFE/Graphite composite with extrusion resisting corners of expanded TFE. Resistance to "stretch" is provided by the expanded TFE yarn used axially. Style 6902 is useful in bleach washers of all types.
| pH 5-10 | surface speeds to 1200 fpm (6.1 M/sec)
pressures to 1000 psi (69 BAR)
|
| temperatures | to +500°F (+260°C) |
 |
Style 7050-V
Style 7050-V "Sealing Strip" has a triangular cross section and is intended to provide long service on machines that require this type of seal instead of the diamond shaped "Seal Rope". It is a continuous extrusion of Graphite-filled PTFE that has a sealing surface that readily conforms to rotating groove surfaces. Style 7050-V "Sealing Strip" has a cable groove along its back side for retention and compression in the rotating sealing groove. Depending upon process, the stainless steel or HastelloY®-C wire rope can be provided. Style 7050-V "Sealing Strip" is available in 25mm cross section in continuous lengths of 36 feet ONLY. Style 7050-V "Sealing Strip" is sold by the length.
